Spondylitis is a medical condition that is characterized by inflammation of the joints between the vertebrae in the spine. This condition can cause pain and stiffness in the neck and back, and can also affect other joints in the body, such as the hips and shoulders.
There are several types of spondylitis, including ankylosing spondylitis, which primarily affects the spine, and psoriatic arthritis, which affects both the skin and joints. The exact cause of spondylitis is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
Ayurveda considers it vata kapa vyadhi, affecting Asthi and Majja . Ahita bhojana, alpahara, ahitasayana, and virudhahara cause spondylitis. Pain and stiffness are the main symptoms of this disease.
In Shatamjeeva, shodhana and shaman therapies are given according to the chronicity of the disease. Therapies like Dhanyamaladhara and Choornapinda Swedam are given. Along with therapies, proper following of diet, Suryasnanam, Yoga, and internal medicine is also mandatory.
