
JAHANGIR MAHAL
According to a legend, King Veer Singh of Orchha sitting with Jaitpur Maharaj on the roof of Jahangir Mahal, pointed to the hill of Jhansi fort and said, “Jhasi” – “The one who is visible”. It later came to be known as Jhansi. It is also mentioned in the Jhansi Gazetteer. The name Jhansi is mentioned for Naroshankar’s fortress, which later gets the name Jhansi in a treaty made with the British government during the rule of the Maratha subedar Raja Ramchandra Rao, the first Maharaja of Jhansi
